Zonta Fashion Frenzy 2025 – a series elevating wāhine, style, history, and culture in Hilo, Hawai‘i.

From the plantation days, where clothes were lovingly crafted from palaka and cloth rice bags, to the rise of local manufacturers in Hilo like Kamehameha Garments and Evelyn Margolis, fashion and creating has been a means of self-expression and empowerment. Sewing provided women with agency, allowing them to prosper while blending and celebrating the diverse cultures of the islands. Today, contemporary designers continue this tradition, creating pieces that reflect the spirit of Hilo, and Hawai‘i.

Mahalo to everyone who joined us for the premiere of That’s Sew Hilo! on Thursday, March 6, and the Hulilau Mākeke on Friday, March 7. Check out the SEW FINE fashion exhibit open through March 29 at Temple Children in Hilo.
